Michael C. Wright of ESPN Chicago updates the situation involving Bears WR Brandon Marshall by reporting that he has two fractured ribs and an injured lung.

According to the Bears, Marshall is still in hospital due to the lung injury and will not play in Week 14’s game against the Saints. It remains unclear whether or not he’ll be able to return this season.

Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reports that the Chicago Bears believe WR Brandon Marshall may have suffered fractured ribs during Thursday’s loss to the Cowboys.

  • Rapoport adds that Marshall’s spleen is also being examined by doctors and his 2014 season is in doubt.

Marshall took a knee directly to his lower back after making a catch. It was clear that he was in a great of pain as the Cowboys immediately waived to the sideline for help. Marshall was able to leave the field under his power, but he was later taken to the hospital in an ambulance.

Chicago’s season has been a huge disappointment and although they aren’t technically eliminated from the playoffs, there is almost no chance of them securing a wildcard spot.

With this in mind, it wouldn’t hurt to shut Marshall down rather than risk further injury.

Marshall, 30, is in the first year of his four-year, $39.3 million contract that included $22.3 million guaranteed. He has base salaries of $7.5 million (2015), $7.9 million (2016), and $8.3 million (2017) coming his way over the remainder of the agreement.

This season, he’s caught 61 passes for 721 yards receiving and eight touchdowns.
