Dolphins Trade RB Kenyan Drake To Cardinals

According to Adam Schefter, the Cardinals have traded a conditional 2020 draft pick to the Dolphins in exchange for RB Kenyan Drake.

Per Ian Rapoport, Arizona gave up a conditional sixth-round pick that can become a fifth-rounder.

Drake did not travel with the Dolphins to Pittsburgh for their upcoming Monday night game against the Steelers as negotiations for the running back had heated up recently. Arizona presumably made the best offer to shore up a backfield that’s been hit hard by injuries the past few weeks.

While the Dolphins initially wanted to sign Drake to a contract extension, his agents never responded to Miami’s offer. The Dolphins elected to trade Drake given they were unlikely to receive a compensatory pick if they let him leave in free agency at the end of the year.

Drake, 25, is a former third-round pick of the Dolphins back in 2016. He’s currently in the final year of his four-year, $3.5 million contract and stands to make a base salary of $810,000 for the 2019 season.

Drake is in line to be an unrestricted free agent in 2020.

In 2019, Drake has appeared in six games for the Dolphins and rushed for 174 yards on 47 carries (3.7 YPC) to go along with 22 receptions for 174 yards receiving and no touchdowns.
