According to Adam Schefter, the Rams are trading CB Aqib Talib and a fifth-round pick to the Dolphins for an undisclosed future pick.
Jason La Canfora reports the Dolphins have also agreed to absorb Talib’s prorated salary and pay him $5.8 million total this season.
The Rams continue their secondary makeover after trading away Marcus Peters and bringing in Jalen Ramsey a couple weeks ago. They’d previously made Talib available in an effort to free up cap space to re-sign Ramsey once his contract expires.
Given the inclusion of the pick by the Rams and Miami’s apparent moves to tank this season, this looks like a salary dump by Los Angeles in exchange for Miami moving up in the draft.
Talib is currently on injured reserve with fractured ribs and is eligible to return later this season. He’s also in the final year of a six-year, $57 million deal.
Talib, 33, is a former first-round pick of the Buccaneers back in 2008. He spent four years in Tampa Bay before joining the Patriots in 2012.
The Broncos later signed him to a six-year, $57 million contract that includes $26 million guaranteed before trading him to the Rams last year for a fifth-round pick.
Talib stands to make a base salary of $8 million for the 2019 season.
In 2019, Talib has appeared in five games for the Rams and recorded 14 tackles, no interceptions and two pass defenses.
