Ryan Kalil Comes Out Of Retirement, Signs One-Year, $8.4M Deal With Jets

According to Ian Rapoport, former Panthers C Ryan Kalil has come out of retirement to sign a deal with the Jets. Rapoport reports that Kalil receives a one-year, $8.4 million contract from New York.

Pending a physical, Kalil will join the team and fill a huge void at the center position. Rapoport reports the Jets have been courting Kalil for seven weeks. 

Kalil announced last year the 2018 season would be his final season and he would retire following the end of the season. A neck injury limited him to six games in 2017.

Kalil, 34, is a former second-round pick of the Panthers back in 2007. He played out final year of his three-year, $24.5 million contract that included $13 million guaranteed and made a base salary of $4.5 million for the 2018 season.

In 2018, Kalil started all 16 games for the Panthers at center. He was rated by Pro Football Focus as the No. 16 center out of 38 qualifying players.
