Texans Trading DeAndre Hopkins To Cardinals

Adam Schefter reports that the Texans are trading WR DeAndre Hopkins to the Cardinals.

  • According to John McClain, the Texans are sending Hopkins and a 2020 fourth-round pick go to the Cardinals for David Johnson and a second-round pick this year and a fourth-round pick next year.
  • Aaron Wilson reports that Hopkins was unhappy with his contract and the Texans weren’t going to alter his existing deal with $40 million remaining over three years.

Peter King reported earlier in the day that Hopkins could be traded this offseason, but this deal came together much faster than anyone anticipated.

Hopkins has been one of the premier receivers in the NFL and should be an amazing addition for the Cardinals offense and second-year QB Kyler Murray.

Johnson is coming off of two straight disappointing seasons, so it will be interesting to see what he’s able to do with a fresh start in Houston.

Hopkins, 27, was taken with the No. 27 overall pick back in 2013. He’s currently in the third year of his five-year, $81 million extension that includes $49 million guaranteed.

Hopkins stands to make a base salary of $12.5 million for the 2020 season.

In 2019, Hopkins appeared in 15 games for the Texans and caught 104 passes for 1,165 yards receiving and seven touchdowns. He also rushed for 18 yards.
