Latest Regarding Broncos CB Chris Harris

Update:

Ian Rapoport reports that Broncos CB Chris Harris is frustrated after a conversation that included his agent and members of Denver’s front office.

Rapoport says the conversation “kinda blew up and everyone got angry at each other.”

According to Rapoport, it remains to be seen how strong Harris’ stance is and how strong of a market there will be for a cornerback who will be 30 years old and coming off of injury.

Harris tells Nicki Jhabvala that he’s still open to being back with the Broncos and is hoping to finish out his career in Denver.

“Oh yeah, I always wanted to retire here,” Harris told The Athletic on Wednesday. “I’ve been patient. I’m still open to coming back. I’m never closing that door until they close it.”

Regarding the possibility of holding out if they can’t get a deal done, Harris said: “It shouldn’t get to that point.”

“We could still get a deal done with the Broncos,” Harris said. “Oh yeah. It’s not over yet.”

Mike Klis reports that the Broncos will listen to trade offers for CB Chris Harris but they won’t give him away.

Klis says that there’s a chance Harris is still with the Broncos at the end of the draft.

The Broncos had already heard from one team about Harris earlier in the week before he requested a new contract or a trade.

Last night, Klis reported that Harris is looking for $15 million per year as part of a long-term extension. However, Denver will not go to this level to keep Harris, according to Klis.

Harris was not in attendance for the start of the team’s offseason program a few weeks ago.

Harris, 29, wound up signing on with the Broncos as an undrafted free agent out of Kansas back in 2011. He has played all seven years of his NFL career in Denver.

Harris is entering the final year of his five-year, $42.5 million contract that included a $10 million signing bonus and stands to make a base salary of $7.8 million for the 2019 season.

According to OverTheCap.com, trading Harris would free up $7.9 million of available cap space while creating $866,668 in dead money.

In 2018, Harris appeared in 11 games for the Broncos and recorded 48 tackles, one sack, three interceptions returned for a touchdown and 10 pass defenses.
