Browns Release LB Christian Kirksey

The Cleveland Browns announced Tuesday that they’ve released veteran LB Christian Kirksey.

Christian Kirksey has been a vital member of our organization for the last six seasons because of his contributions on and off the field,” said Browns Executive Vice President of Football Operations and General Manager Andrew Berry. “He has been a strong leader both in our locker room and in the Cleveland community. These are difficult decisions and, in Christian’s case, more challenging because of how well he has represented our team. We thank him for his dedication and wish him nothing but the best in the next phase of his career.”

Kirksey, 27, is a former third-round pick of the Browns back in 2014. He was in the final year of his four-year, $3.04 million contract when he agreed to a four-year contract extension worth $38 million and includes $20 million guaranteed.

Kirksey was set to make a base salary of $7.75 million for the 2020 season.

According to OverTheCap.com, releasing Kirksey will free up $6,675,000 of available cap space while creating $2.4 million in dead money.

In 2019, Kirksey appeared in two games and recorded 11 tackles for the Browns before being placed on injured reserve.
