Browns Releasing Veteran QB Josh McCown

Mike Garafolo of NFL Media reports that the Browns are releasing veteran QB Josh McCown on Tuesday.

  • According to Garafolo, McCown intends to continue his NFL career and could be a decent option as a veteran backup for a team a young starting quarterback.

McCown, 37, was entering the final year of his three-year, $14 million contract that includes $6.25 million guaranteed and set to make a base salary of $3.625 million for the 2017 season. He was also owed a $750,000 roster bonus in the coming weeks.

According to OverTheCap.com, releasing McCown will free up $4,375,000 in available cap space while creating $666,668 in dead money.

In 2016, McCown threw for 1100 yards while completing 54.5 percent of his passes to go along with six touchdowns and six interceptions over the course of five games.
