Rick Stroud reports that the Buccaneers are also in “preliminary” contract talks with LB Jonathan Casillas.

Casillas, 26, signed a one-year, $3 million contract with Tampa Bay last April. He totaled 33 tackles and a forced fumble for the Buccaneers over the course of 12 games.

Jason La Confora tweets that the Buccaneers are “making a push” to re-sign versatile FB Erik Lorig. who will be an unrestricted free agent in the next few weeks.

  • La Canfora adds that retaining Lorig is a “priority” for the Buccaneers as he can also function as a tight end.
  • According to La Canfora, Lorig “several” teams could have interest in him on the open market.

Lorig, 27, played 391 snaps for the Buccaneers last season, which was good enough for fifth among all fullbacks, and a ranking of No. 19 overall, according to Pro Football Focus.

It’s also worth mentioning that Buccaneers’ new offensive coordinator Jeff Tedford recruited Lorig while he was the head coach at the University of California.
