Buccaneers Rumors: Doug Martin Suffers Hamstring Strain, Ronde Barber At S, Kellen Winslow Absent

Doug Martin

Buccaneers first-round pick RB Doug Martin was sidelined by a “slight” hamstring strain during today’s OTAs, per Rick Stroud.

Martin has been a very durable player in year’s past, so I’m sure this isn’t anything big. He’s still the odds on favorite to win the starting RB job, but doing so will require him to stay on the field for as much as possible.

LeGarrette Blount is still holding out hope of becoming an every down back for the team.

“Them drafting a running back might be what I needed to become an every down back,” said Blount, per Rick Stroud.

Kellen Winslow

Rick Stroud reports that Buccaneers TE Kellen Winslow was absent for the beginning of Bucs OTAs on Tuesday.

The workouts are voluntary, but this could be a sign that Winslow is unhappy with his current contract. There have been some rumors that the Buc’s could release him, considering that they’re not on the hook for any of his current salary. Such a move would free up $4.8 million in cap space, but that’s really not something that the Buc’s are concerned with at this point.

Ronde Barber

Ronde Barber is working as a safety during the Buccaneers OTAs.

This was reportedly something the team was considering and makes sense when you consider how much Barber struggled last season while playing corner.
