Cam Newton Likely To Miss Week 15’s Game

According to Joe Person of the Charlotte Observer, Panthers QB Cam Newton is likely to miss Week 15’s game against the Buccaneers after he was in a car accident Tuesday that resulted in two transverse fractures in his lower back.

Newton’s Dodge Ram pickup truck overturned several times after colliding with another vehicle Tuesday afternoon. He was later stretchered off and taken to Carolinas Medical Center in an ambulance as a precaution

According to Peron, HC Ron Rivera will address Newton’s status for this weekend’s game on Wednesday, but the expectation is that he won’t play.

Cowboys QB Tony Romo suffered the same injury after he took a hit to back during their game against the Redskins earlier this season. Romo was forced to miss the following week’s game against the Cardinals, so it’s not all that surprising that Newton could be held out of Sunday’s game.

This means veteran QB Derek Anderson is likely to start against the Buccaneers on Sunday.
