Cardinals Place C A.Q. Shipley On IR With Torn ACL

The Arizona Cardinals announced Tuesday that they’ve officially placedย C A.Q. Shipley on injured reserve, ending his 2018 season with a torn ACL.

Shipley will have a shot at being ready in time for the start of training camp next year, but there are obviously no guarantees.

The Cardinals are expected to give rookie Mason Cole an opportunity to replace Shipley in the starting lineup.

Shipley, 32, is a former seventh-round pick of the Steelers back in 2009. He lasted just over a year with the Steelers before playing for a few teams including the Eagles, Colts and Ravens.

The Cardinals signed him to a two-year contract in 2015 and brought him back on a ย two-year, $3.5 million contract last year. He stands to make abase salary of $1.5 million for the 2018 season.

In 2017, Shipley appeared in all 16 games for the Cardinals and was rated by Pro Football Focus as the No. 28 center out of 35 qualifying players.
