Cardinals Second-Round Pick TE Troy Niklas Breaks Hand

Cardinals HC Bruce Arians told reporters on Tuesday thatย second-round pick TEย Troy Niklasย got hisย hand caught in a jersey last week and suffered a broken hand, via Darren Urban.

  • Arians added thatย Niklas is expected toย be back in time for the start ofย training camp.

Niklas seems like a great fit inย Arians’ offensive system which requires tight ends to be blockers first. At Notre Dame,ย Niklas excelled as a blocking tight end and was widely considered to be the best blocker among this year’s crop of tight ends.

During his threeย years at Notre Dame, Niklasย caught 37 passes for 573 yards receiving and scored six touchdowns over the course of 38 games.

The Cardinals really needed some depth at tight end asย Rob Houslerย has been a disappointment and free agent acquisitionย John Carlsonย has dealt with numerous injuries, so I’m sure he’llย have an opportunity to carve out at least a part-time role in training camp.
