Cardinals Starting Blaine Gabbert At QB In Week 11

Cardinals HC Bruce Arians announced that Blaine Gabbert will be their starting quarterback for Sunday’s game against the Texans.

According to Arian, Drew Stanton with the team’s backup quarterback if he’s physically able to. Otherwise, they will go with Matt Barkley as their No. 2 quarterback.

This doesn’t come as a big surprise, considering that Mike Jurecki of ArizonaSports.com reported earlier in the week that Arizona was expected to start Gabbert this weekend.

Gabbert, 28, is a former first-round pick of the Jaguars back in 2010. After three years in Jacksonville, he was traded to the 49ers in return for a sixth-round pick back in March of 2014.

Gabbert played out the final year of his two-year, $4 million contract before eventually signing a one-year, $855,000 contract with the Cardinals this past May.

In 2016, Gabbert appeared in eight games for the 49ers and threw for 925 yards while completing 56.9 percent of their passes to go along with five touchdowns and six interceptions. Gabbert also rushed for 173 yards and two touchdowns.
