Chargers Release LT Jared Gaither

Michael Gehlken of the Union Tribune reports that the Chargers have informed LT Jared Gaither that he will be released today. The Chargers have since confirmed the move.

Gehlken adds that this move  will result in a $6 million cap hit for the 2013 season.

Gaither, 27, signed a four-year deal worth $24.6 million that also included $13.5 million guaranteed and an $8 million signing bonus.

Numerous reports suggested that his teammates felt as though he quit on the team last year. San Diego’s offensive line was in terrible shape last season and they could have used any help they could find.

So far this offseason, OT King Dunlap and G Chad Rinehart to their roster, but in the process they lost Louis Vazquez to the Broncos. Finding offensive line help in the draft is paramount at this point in time, so hopefully one of the three offensive tackles falls to them at No. 11 overall.
