Chiefs Pick Up $400K Of Cap Space By Reworking LS James Winchester’s Contract

Field Yates of ESPN reports that the ChiefsĀ converted LS James Winchester’s $500,000 roster bonus into a signing bonus, which in turn created $400,000 of cap space.

Winchester, 27, originally signed on with the Eagles as an undrafted free agent out of Oklahoma back in 2013. He lasted just a few weeks with Philadelphia before he was waived during the preseason.

It wasn’t until 2015 that Winchester signed a two-year, $960,000 contract with the Chiefs. He was set to be an exclusive rights free agentĀ when the Chiefs signed him to a five-year, $4.45 million contract back in January.

In 2016, Winchester appeared in all 16 games for the Chiefs.
