Chiefs Waive DB J.R. Nelson With Injury Designation

The Kansas City Chiefs officially waived DB J.R. Nelson with an injury designation on Wednesday.

Should Nelson pass through waivers unclaimed, he would revert to the team’s injured reserve list on Thursday.

Nelson, 23, wound up signing a three-year, $1.66 million contract with the Chiefs as an undrafted free agent out of Montana back in May. He stands to make base salaries of $465,000 and $555,000 over the first two years of the contract.

During his college career at Montana, Nelson recorded 103 tackles, two tackles for a loss, a blocked field goal, two forced fumbles, two interceptions returned for touchdowns and 20 pass defenses over the course of 52 games.
