Colts Promote DT Jihad Ward To Active Roster, Waive TE Erik Swoope

The Indianapolis Colts announced Thursday that they’ve promoted DT Jihad Ward to their 53-man roster and waived TE Erik Swoope.

Ward, 24, is a former second-round pick of the Raiders back in 2016. He was in the third year of his four-year, $5.539 million contract when the Raiders traded him to the Cowboys for WR Ryan Switzer.

Dallas wound up waiving Ward coming out of the preseason and he later signed on to the Colts’ practice squad.

In 2017, Ward appeared in five games for the Raiders and recorded two tackles and a sack.

Swoope, 26, wound up signing on with the Colts as an undrafted free agent out of Miami back in May of 2014. He has been on and off of the team’s practice squad for the early part of his career before he made the 53-man roster last season.

The Colts brought Swoope back on an exclusive rights contracts each of the past two seasons.

In 2018, Swoope has appeared in one game and caught one pass for 13 yards and no touchdowns.
