Colts Safeties Malik Hooker & Clayton Geathers To Open Camp On PUP List

Colts GM Chris Ballard told reporters on Friday that safeties Malik Hooker and Clayton Geathers will likely open training camp on the active/PUP list, per Kevin Bowen.

Ballard expects Hooker to return in early-to-mid August.

Regarding Gathers, Ballard says he underwent “a knee procedure” and is likely to open training camp on the active/PUP list, per George Bremer. Ballard did, however, add that Geathers is “close” and is “going to be fine” by all indications.

Hooker is working his way back from torn ACL and MCL in his knee, so it’s not surprising to hear he’ll open camp on the PUP list.

Hooker, 22, is a former first-round pick of the Colts back in 2017. He’s currently in the second year of his four-year, $12.6 million contract that’s fully guaranteed and stands to make base salaries of $1.03 million and $1.61 million over the next two years of the agreement.

In 2017, Hooker appeared in seven games for the Colts and recorded 22 tackles, three interceptions, and four pass defenses before being placed on injured reserve.
