Contract Talks Between Cowboys & Amari Cooper To Intensify “Very Soon”

Josina Anderson reports that contract negotiations between Cowboys and impending free-agent WR Amari Cooper are to intensify “very soon.”

Last month, Cooper said he is hopeful to remain in Dallas for “a long time.” (NFLTR)

“I do [want to stay in Dallas],” Cooper said. “I mean that wholeheartedly. I love Dallas. . . .I feel like it’s home. I want to live there for a long time.

Cowboys EVP Stephen Jones also said that Cooper is their “No. 2″ priority behind only QB Dak Prescott this offseason, per Michael Gehlken.

Earlier today, Ian Rapoport reported that Dallas is likely to use the exclusive franchise tag on Prescott and let CB Byron Jones walk in free agency, so the Cowboys are clearly prioritizing their offense.

Cooper, 25, is a former No. 4 overall pick by the Raiders out of Alabama in the 2015 NFL Draft. The Raiders traded him to the Cowboys for a first-round pick midway through the 2018 season.

Cooper played out the final year of his four-year, $22.7 million contract, but his fifth-year option which cost them $13,924,000 for 2019. He’s set to be an unrestricted free agent.

In 2019, Cooper appeared in all 16 games for the Cowboys and caught 79 passes for 1,189 yards receiving and eight touchdowns.

We have him included in our Top 100 – 2020 Free Agents list.
