Cowboys Franchise WR Dez Bryant

Mike Garafolo of FOX Sports reports that the Cowboys have officially placed their franchise tag on WR Dez Bryant.

Cowboys VP Stephen Jones made it clear over the weekend that Bryant was receiving the tag, so this is probably the least shocking news of the day.

Franchising Bryant will cost them $12.823 million fully guaranteed for the 2015 season. However, this won’t prevent the two sides from continuing to work on a long-term contract that would reduce that figure to something more team-friendly.

It’s worth mentioning that some have suggested that Dallas could use the tag on Bryant again in 2016, rather than sign him to a massive contract extension. Doing so would cost the Cowboys an additional 20 percent on top of the 2015 figure.

Bryant, 26, caught 88 passes for 1,320 yards receiving and 16 touchdowns over the course of ten games for Dallas last year. Pro Football Focus has Bryant rated as the No. 2 wide receiver in the league.

We had Bryant listed as the No. 3 player in our Top 100 Free Agents list.
