Cowboys Have Been In Contact With Dolphins About DB Minkah Fitzpatrick

Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald reports that the Dolphins have spoken to “several” teams about a trade for DB Minkah Fitzpatrick including the Cowboys.

  • While the Cowboys have contacted the Dolphins about Fitzpatrick, David Moore reports that it was more “due diligence” than an aggressive pursuit.

Cowboys VP Stephen Jones said Friday that they’ve been in contact with Miami. However, Jones wouldn’t comment on any specifics, per Jon Machota.

“We always, when you hear rumors, you get calls, you have conversations between myself, Jerry, Will. We’re always checking around and seeing what’s going on,” Jones said, per Machota. “We have a pretty steady diet of visiting with other teams. We’re always trying to improve our roster.”

Machota notes that Fitzpatrick is represented by Joel Segal, who also represents Taco Charlton and Amari Cooper.

The Dolphins have reportedly granted Fitzpatrick permission to seek a trade out of Miami.

However, multiple sources tell Chris Mortensen that Miami’s asking price for Fitzpatrick is “too high.” Mortensen says that teams initially have been resistant to the Dolphins’ apparent asking price that includes a first-round pick.

A Dolphins official tells Cameron Wolfe that the Dolphins are not actively shopping Fitzpatrick, but the team did not deny they have given his agent permission to talk with other teams.

Fitzpatrick has been unhappy with his current situation for some time and the Dolphins’ coaching staff has not embraced him as the last one did.

Fitzpatrick, 22, is a former first-round pick of the Dolphins back in 2018. He’s currently int he second year of his four-year, $16,509,174 contract that included a $10,086,672 signing bonus.

Fitzpatrick is owed base salaries of $1,227,626 and $1,975,252. His contract includes a fifth-year option to be picked up for the 2022 season.

In 2019, Fitzpatrick has appeared in one game for the Dolphins and recorded six tackles and no interceptions.

We’ll have more regarding Fitzpatrick as the news is available.
