Cowboys Not Expected To Extend Dak Prescott Before Deadline

According to Adam Schefter, the Cowboys and QB Dak Prescott are not expected to reach a long-term deal before Wednesday’s 4 PM deadline, barring a last-minute change.

Schefter adds no talks are planned between the two sides and all signs point to Prescott playing out 2020 on the $31.4 million franchise tag.

According to Clarence Hill of the Star-Telegram, the Cowboys and Prescott haven’t had any negotiations since March when Dallas offered him a five-year deal worth more than $34 million per year with $110 million guaranteed.

Prescott remains dug in on a four-year deal, however, and appears ready to bet on himself again before entering a similar situation next year — with a much larger franchise tag number.

Prescott, 26, is a former fourth-round pick of the Cowboys back in 2016. He’s entering the final year of his four-year, $2.72 million contract and was in line to be an unrestricted free agent this offseason.

In 2019, Prescott appeared in all 16 games and completed 65.1 percent of his passes for 4,902 yards, 30 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. He has also rushed for 277 yards and three touchdowns for Dallas. Pro Football Focus rated him as the No. 10 quarterback out of 37 qualifying players.

We’ll have more regarding Prescott and the Cowboys as the news is available.
