Latest On Cowboys & QB Dak Prescott

Update:

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, citing multiple sources, reports that the Cowboys have made only one recent offer to QB Dak Prescott, which came on March 2.

According to Florio, it’s unclear whether Prescott’s camp has responded to the offer.

According to Todd Archer, the Cowboys have sent over a new contract proposal to QB Dak Prescott ahead of Thursday’s franchise tag deadline.

Calvin Watkins confirms the Cowboys’ latest offer is more than their last. Archer says it’s likely the deal exceeds the $33 million per year average Prescott reportedly has already turned down from Dallas.

He adds the deal likely at least puts Prescott in the same neighborhood as Packers QB Aaron Rodgers and Rams QB Jared Goff in terms of average annual salary at the top of the quarterback market:

NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport says, however, this deal was offered at the Combine and did not appear to gain any traction with Prescott’s camp.

If the Cowboys and Prescott cannot come to an agreement on a long-term deal before Thursday, Dallas will almost certainly use the exclusive franchise tag.

This would cost Dallas roughly $33 million fully guaranteed for the 2020 season, but would also buy them additional time work out a long-term deal.

Prescott, 26, is a former fourth-round pick of the Cowboys back in 2016. He’s entering the final year of his four-year, $2.72 million contract and is in line to be an unrestricted free agent this offseason.

In 2019, Prescott appeared in all 16 games and completed 65.1 percent of his passes for 4,902 yards, 30 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. He has also rushed for 277 yards and three touchdowns for Dallas. Pro Football Focus rated him as the No. 10 quarterback out of 37 qualifying players.

We have Prescott included in our Top 100 – 2020 Free Agents list.
