Cowboys Sign S Robert Blanton

The Dallas Cowboys have signed S Robert Blanton to a contract on Thursday, according to Adam Caplan.

The Cowboys were clearly in the market for defensive backs after losing CB Morris Claiborne, CB Brandon Carr, S J.J. Wilcox and S Barry Church in free agency.

Blanton previously visited with Dallas a month ago, but it took until now to get an agreement in place.

Blanton, 27, is a former fifth-round pick in the 2012 NFL Draft by the Vikings. He played out his rookie contract with the Vikings before signing a one-year, $840,000 deal with the Bills back in March of last year.

Blanton’s 2016 season came to an end after he was placed on injured reserve back in November.

The Cowboys signed him to a contract as an unrestricted free agent back in April, making his stint in Dallas short-lived.

In 2016, Blanton appeared in 10 games for the Bills and recorded 35 total tackles and no other statistics.
