Cowboys TE Rico Gathers Suspended One Game

Tom Pelissero of NFL Media reports that Cowboys TE Rico Gathers been suspended without pay for the first game of the 2019 regular season for violating the NFL’s policy and program on substances of abuse.

The suspension comes from Gathers’ 2018 arrest for marijuana possession.

Gathers, 25, is a former sixth-round pick of the Cowboys back in May of 2016. He was, unfortunately, cut loose coming out of the preseason and later signed to the team’s practice squad at the start of the regular season.

Dallas brought Gathers back on a future/reserve contract in 2017 but was placed on injured reserve after sustaining a concussion during the preseason.

Gathers is in line to be a restricted free agent in 2020.

In 2018, Gathers appeared in 15 games for the Cowboys and caught three passes for 45 yards receiving and no touchdowns.
