There has been speculation regarding how the Chicago Bears will utilize Devin Hester, their star kick-returner, in 2012, after signing Eric Weems and Devin Thomas who happen to both be experienced kick-returners in their own right.
In an interview with the Chicago Tribune, when asked about the situation, Bears head coach Lovie Smith said “we have that versatility now.” So by the sounds of it, the Bears figure to utilize all of their weapons in some form.
Chicago had the luxury of versatility in that role in 2009, when Johnny Knox and Danieal Manning had 60 returns between them. That season, Hester had just seven returns, but caught a career-high 57 passes, so we could see more production at wide receiver from Hester in 2012.
