Dolphins Announce Ryan Fitzpatrick Will Start Week 5

The Miami Dolphins announced Ryan Fitzpatrick will remain the starting quarterback for Week 5 against the 49ers.

Miami is 1-3 so there had been some push for the Dolphins to hand over the keys to first-round QB Tua Tagovailoa.

However, Dolphins HC Brian Flores is reticent to put Tagovailoa out there before he’s ready, particularly coming off his severe hip injury last fall.

It’s very likely Tagovailoa will start at some point this season but it won’t be this week.

Fitzpatrick, 37, is a former seventh-round pick of the Rams back in 2005. He’s played for several teams over the course of his 13-year NFL career including the Bengals, Bills, Titans, Texans and Jets before he signed on with the Buccaneers last year.

The Dolphins signed Fitzpatrick to a two-year contract worth $11 million contract last March.

In 2020, Fitzpatrick has appeared in four games and completed 69 percent of his passes for 994 yards, four touchdowns and five interceptions. He has also rushed 21 times for 115 yards and two touchdowns.
