Dolphins Claim CB Bene Benwikere Off Waivers, Jets & Redskins Also Placed Claims

The Miami Dolphins have claimed CB Bene Benwikere off of waivers on Monday, according to Tom Pelissero.

  • Pelissero reports that the Jets and Redskins also placed waiver claims for Benwikere, but lost to the Dolphins, considering that Miami has the higher waiver priority.

The Panthers somewhat surprisingly cut Benwikere loose last week after a poor performance against Falcons WR Julio Jones. Benwikere previously mentioned that the Falcons exposed his conditioning by running consecutive deep routes against him, per Conor Orr.

Benwikere, 25, is a former fifth-round pick of the Panthers back in 2014. He’s currently in the third year of his four-year, $2.419 million contract and set to make a base salary of $600,000 for the 2016 season.

In 2016, Benwikere has appeared in four games for the Panthers and recorded 10 tackles, one interception and four pass defenses for the Panthers. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 87 cornerback out of 111 qualifying players.
