Dolphins Exploring Trade Up From No. 5 For Offensive Tackle

According to Ian Rapoport, the Dolphins have called the teams ahead of them at No. 5 and are interested in potentially moving up to No. 3 overall to take an offensive tackle.

Michael Lombardi confirms that the Dolphins have interest in trading up ahead of the Giants for an offensive tackle.

The Lions have said they’re more than willing to move down. The Giants have also expressed a willingness to move down, but they seem to be targeting an offensive tackle as well.

There are four offensive tackles widely seen as in the top tier in this draft — Iowa OT Tristan Wirfs, Alabama OT Jedrick Wills, Georgia OT Andrew Thomas and Louisville OT Mekhi Becton.

The order depends on who you ask but Miami is likely targeting one of those four. Thomas and Becton are among the two that have been linked to them.

This has been rumored as a possibility for the Dolphins as the draft approaches, but it’s interesting considering Miami needs a quarterback and gave Alabama QB Tua Tagovailoa a passing grade on his physical

However, the Dolphins might be more confident in their ability to get a quarterback later with an early run expected on offensive tackles.

With a war chest of draft picks, including three first-round picks and two second-round picks this year and more in 2021, the Dolphins are poised to be able to do just about whatever they want in terms of moving around in the draft.

We’ll have more on the Dolphins as the news is available.

  1. Why trade up for a top OT when there are 4 good ones? Why, Because if Miami is at 3, they can make one last ditched effort to pry Burrow away from the Bengals… The Bengals may consider just dropping 2 spots because they know they could get Tua or Herbert… and a butt load of draft picks… but dropping to 5 is too far…. if the Bengals decline, then the Phins have their choice of OT

  2. Crazy if Miami just stocks up on offensive help OT WR and RB. Then just go sign Jameis Winston to be there QB
