Dolphins Prepared To Sign An OT In Free Agency After Losing Jake Long?

Armando Salguero reports that a source has informed that the Miami Dolphins intend to sign an offensive tackle in free agency now that Jake Long has decided to sign with the Rams.

Salguero mentions that Sebastian Vollmer or Eric Winston would make the most sense for the Dolphins at this point in time. Andre Smith and Bryant McKinnie aren’t great fits for the Dolphins, according to Salguero.

Vollmer, Winston and Smith all played right tackle last season and it’s hard to say what kind of production you’re going to get from McKinnie in the coming years, so this could be an indication that Miami is comfortable with Jonathan Martin playing offensive tackle.

Martin clearly struggled in the five games he played at left tackle last season. This was highlighted by 49ers OLB Aldon Smith absolutely destroying him for a sack on Ryan Tannehill. (Video)

Winston’s name has been brought up in recent days as a potential option and there’s a good chance he would require a reasonable salary while others like Vollmer and Smith could have much higher asking prices.

  1. Vollmer would be great and we could take away another piece of an AFC east team(NE). Winston also has an upside that he went to college at the “U”. Either one is okay by me.
