Dolphins Releasing Veteran WR Danny Amendola

Ian Rapoport reports that the Dolphins have released veteran WR Danny Amendola on Friday.

There had been some speculation that Amendola could be a cap casualty for Miami this offseason, so this isn’t a big surprise.

It will, however, be interesting to see if the Patriots show interest in bringing back for the 2019 season.

Amendola, 33, originally signed on with the Cowboys as an undrafted free agent out of Texas Tech back in 2008. He spent over a year in Dallas before eventually signing on with the Eagles.

Amendola played a number of seasons for the Rams before the Patriots signed him to a five-year contract back in 2013. The Dolphins signed him to a two-year, $12 million contract that included $8.25 million guaranteed last year.

According to OverTheCap.com, releasing Amendola will free up $6 million of available cap space while creating no dead money.

In 2018, Amendola appeared in 15 games for the Dolphins and caught 59 passes for 575 yards receiving (9.7 YPC) to go along with one touchdown. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 65 receiver out of 117 qualifying players.
