Eagles Place K Cody Parkey On I.R. & Sign K Caleb Sturgis

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Eagles are placing K Cody Parkey on season-ending injured reserve with a groin injury and signing former Dolphins K Caleb Sturgis to take his place.

  • Mike Garafolo reports that former Redskins K Kai Forbath was also a finalist for the job.

The Eagles hosted a number of kickers for tryouts on Monday including: Sturgis, Nick Novak, Billy CundiffKai Forbath, Shayne Graham and Carey Spear.

Sturgis, 26, is a former fifth round pick of the Dolphins back in 2013. He spent two years in Miami before he was among their final roster cuts this past weekend, as they got down to 53 players.

In 2014, Sturgis converted 29 of 37 field goal attempts (78.4 percent) to go along with 37 touchbacks and 41 out of 41 extra point tries. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 21 kicker out of 57 qualifying players.

Parkey, 23, is in the second year of his  three-year, $1.53 million rookie contract. He stands to make a base salary of $510,000 for the 2015 season.

His season comes to an end with him converting three of four field goal attempts and all seven extra point tries.
