Eric Weddle Open To Playing For Another Team If He Isn’t Back With Ravens

Ravens veteran S Eric Weddle told the team’s website that he’s “not sure if things are going to get worked out with Baltimore,” but he “obviously” prefers to return and finish out his contract.

“I want to finish out [my contract],” Weddle said, via the Baltimore Sun. “But obviously, decisions have to be made for the future of the team, the organization. They got to do what’s best for them, and I respect that. … [We’ll] see if there’s something to be worked out. If not, then I’ve had an unbelievable experience here and loved every second. So if it does happen, we both move on and then … we’ll see if I’ll play somewhere else or hang ’em up.”

Weddle had said previously that he was either going to return to the Ravens or retire, but he left the door open to playing for another team on Wednesday.

Weddle, 34, is a former second-round pick of the Chargers back in 2007. He played nine seasons for the Chargers before signing a four-year, $26 million contract that included $13 million guaranteed with the Ravens for the 2016 season.

Weddle is entering the final year of his contract and stands to make a base salary of $6.5 million for the 2019 season.

In 2018, Weddle appeared in 16 games and recorded 68 tackles, one sack, no interceptions and three pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 17 safety out of 91 qualifying players.
