Falcons Decline DE Charles Harris’ Fifth-Year Option

The Atlanta Falcons are declining DE Charles Harris‘ fifth-year option for the 2021 season, according to Tom Pelissero.

The fifth-year option was guaranteed for injury only and wouldn’t have prevented them from negotiating a contract extension in the coming months. It was projected to cost them $10,089,000 for the 2021 season.

Atlanta just recently traded a 2021 seventh-round pick to the Dolphins for Harris, so they’re viewing this as a one-year rental.

Harris, 25, is a former first-round pick by the Dolphins in the 2017 NFL Draft out of Missouri. He’s entering the final year of his four-year, $10,843,739 rookie contract and is set to earn a base salary of $1,943,692 in 2020.

Harris will be an unrestricted free agent in 2021.

In 2019, Harris appeared in 14 games and recorded 23 total tackles, three tackles for loss, and 0.5 of a sack. Pro Football Focus rated him as the No. 76 overall edge defender of 107 qualifying players.
