Falcons Plan For Their Secondary Now That They’ve Added Asante Samuel

Now that the Atlanta Falcons have acquired CB Asante Samuel from the Eagles, the question is where exactly he’ll be playing next season, considering that they have both Dunta Robinson and Brent Grimes in their secondary as well.

According to Falcons GM Tom DimitroffRobinson will most likely take over as their slot cornerbackon passing downs next season.

“I know Dunta has wanted to play inside in the nickel spot,” said Dimitroff, via Sirius XM Sports. “He did it out in Houston before he came our way. He’s an aggressive guy who can play the run as well as be aggressive in the pass game. I think it’s going to be a nice mix of talents.”

That will leave Grimes and Samuel to work the outside which makes sense considering that they’ve both been pretty successful at that during their careers. If Robinson is able to be effective in the slot, which is something that he’s struggled with in year’s past, they could have one of the league’s most formidable pass defense next year, which should help their chances against teams like the Saints.
