Falcons Won’t Rule Out Signing DT Richard Seymour

Falcons GM Thomas Dimitroff discussed the team’s financial situation and the possibility of signing free agent DT Richard Seymour with 790 The Zone.

Atlanta currently has about $7 million in salary cap space to work with, but Dimitroff mentioned that this money will likely be used in case they need to add some help following an injury.

There is some room, but we also have to keep in consideration that if injuries come about that we have some money to make sure that we help ourselves if something does come about,” Dimitroff said, via the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.  “We’re not jumping right in. We’re not jumping in to spend money because we have a few bucks in our pocket right now.

There has been a lot of speculation that the team may look to bolster their defensive line by adding Seymour, but that doesn’t appear to be something they are currently considering.

Again, our focus right now is to make sure that we get through the (exhibition season) here,” Dimitrof said. “I know there is a lot of talk about Richard and Richard is a fine man. There is no more discussion here at this point about having him in here.”

Dimitrof added that “never say never.

Seymour will be 34 in a couple of months and has dealt with a few injuries in the past few years. He was, however, effective for the Raiders, despite playing a limited number of snaps in 2012.

We have Seymour listed as the No. 4 player in our Best Available Free Agents list.
