Former Vikings DT Sharrif Floyd’s Career Over, Files $180M Lawsuit Against Dr. James Andrews

Albert Breer of TheMMQB.com reports that former Vikings DT Sharrif Floyd‘s NFL career is over and he has filed a $180-million lawsuit against noted orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews.

Floyd’s suit alleges that he was told by Andrews that he’d undergo a minor arthroscopic knee surgery in September 2016 and would miss between 3-4 weeks. However, Floyd wound up undergoing a more significant procedure that left him with permanent nerve and muscle damage in his right leg.

According to the suit, the Andrew Institute negligently administered a pain blocker that led to the muscle and nerve damage.

The Vikings placed Floyd on the non-football injury list and the two parties have engaged in settlement talks over the payment of Floyd’s $6.7-million option for 2017.

As for the $184 million suit against the Andrew Institute, Floyd is seeking what he believes he would have made over the course of his full career as a top defensive player.

Floyd, 27, was taken with the No. 23 overall pick back in 2013. He was in the final year of his four-year, $7.671 million rookie contract and stands to make a base salary of $941,300 in 2016 when the Vikings picked up his fifth-year option last year.

For his career, Floyd recorded 95 tackles, 9.5 sacks, a forced fumble, a recovery, four pass defenses over the course of four seasons and 44 games.
