Frank Gore’s Injury Opening The Door For Kendall Hunter?

Matthew Barrows of the Sacramento Bee writes that 49ers RB Frank Gore was at the teams practice on Wednesday but was “favoring his sprained right ankle and was mostly an observer during individual drills.”

Barrows mentions that even if Gore is able to play against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, “he’s likely to share carries with [Kendall] Hunter and perhaps second-year player Anthony Dixon.”

Last week Kendall Hunter came in during the second-half and wound up scoring the games only touchdown. A lot has been made about Hunter’s ability so far but if he’s able to make the most of his carries on Sunday, there’s a good chance he could play himself in to some sort of time share with Gore for the remainder of the season. The 49ers will be up against the Eagles on Sunday who are ranked #30 against the run and are allowing 4.9 yards per carry.
