Giants RB Saquon Barkley Expected To Be Out 4-8 Weeks

Update:

Adam Schefter reports that an MRI revealed that Giants RB Saquon Barkley suffered a high ankle sprain that could sideline him anywhere from 4-8 weeks. According to Schefter, the “longer timeline is considered more likely.”

The Giants have a bye in week 11, which could give him eight weeks to recover and return for last six games.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Giants are expecting to be without RB Saquon Barkley for the next “several” weeks due to a high-ankle sprain.

This should open the door for Wayne Gallman to see an increased workload in the coming weeks while Barkley is out of the lineup.

Barkley was taken to the locker room during the second quarter of Sunday’s game with an ankle injury. He was later seen on crutches and wearing a walking boot on the sideline.

Barkley, 22, was taken with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft by the Giants. Barkley is in the second year of his four-year, $31,321,752 rookie contract that included a $20,859,456 signing bonus.

The contract includes a fifth-year option for the Giants to pick up in 2021.

In 2019, Barkley has appeared in three games and rushed for 237 yards on 37 carries (6.4 YPC) to go along with 11 receptions for 74 yards receiving and one total touchdown.

We’ll have more regarding Barkley as the news is available.
