Giants Open To Trading Davis Webb Or Kyle Lauletta

Ryan Dunleavy of NJ.com, citing a person with knowledge of Giants GM Dave Gettleman’s thinking, reports that New York is open to trading either Davis Webb or Kyle Lauletta.

  • Jordan Raanan mentions that the Giants discussed trading Webb to the Raiders on Saturday but Oakland elected to acquire A.J. McCarron in a deal with the Raiders.
  • Raanan admits that he would still be surprised if Webb not on the roster.

As of now, the Giants have four quarterbacks on their 53-man roster, which is very rare for this time of year.

Dunleavy admits that the Giants could release Alex Tanney to add depth at cornerback or defensive line, but it appears as though they want to see if there’s a trade to be made for either Webb or Lauletta before going that route.

Webb, 23, is a former third-round pick of the Giants back in 2017. He’s currently in the second year of his four-year, $3.61 million contract and set to make a base salary of $604,151 for the 2018 season.

During his four-year college career with Texas Tech and California, Webb recorded 841 completions on 1,367 attempts (61.5 percent) for 9,852 passing yards (7.2 YPA), 83 touchdowns and 34 interceptions.

Lauletta, 23, was selected in the fourth round of this year’s draft by the Giants. He signed a four-year, $3,167,700 with the Giants and stands to make a base salary of $485,000 for the 2018 season.

During his four-year college career at Richmond, Lauletta threw for 10,465 yards while completing 63.5 percent of his passes to go along with 73 touchdowns and 35 interceptions over the course of 40 games.
