Giants Placing G Justin Pugh On Injured Reserve

The New York Giants are placing G Justin Pugh on injured reserve, but the good news for him is that his back injury will not require surgery, per James Kratch.

Instead, Pugh will have to rest and rehabilitate his back in the coming months.

This is a big deal for Pugh, who will be an unrestricted free agent next March and should be in a position to secure a sizeable contract on the open market.

Pugh, 27, is a former first-round pick of the Giants back in 2013. He’s currently in the final year of his four-year, $8.346 million contract and stands to make a base salary of $1,157,307 for the 2016 season.

The Giants elected to pick up Pugh’s fifth-year option that will pay him $8.821 million for the 2017 season.

In 2017, Pugh has appeared in eight games and is rated by Pro Football Focus as the No. 52 guard out of 77 qualifying players.

We have him featured in our Top 25 – 2018 NFL Free Agents list.
