According to Art Stapleton, the Giants have signed TE Eric Tomlinson to the 53-man roster and placed CB Sam Beal on injured reserve in a corresponding move.
Because Beal was on the roster past initial cutdowns, he is eligible to be designated to return from injured reserve starting Week 9.
Beal, 23, was selected in the third round of last year’s supplemental draft. He signed a four-year, $4.08 million contract that included a $1,048,940 signing bonus.
Unfortunately, Beal spent his rookie season on injured reserve with a shoulder injury.
Beal recorded 92 tackles, two tackles for a loss, two interceptions, 19 pass defenses and a forced fumble over the course of three seasons at Western Michigan and 32 games played.
Tomlinson, 27, originally signed on with the Eagles in 2015 as an undrafted free agent out of UTEP. He was unfortunately among their final roster cuts, but later signed a future/reserve deal with the Texans.
Houston waived Tomlinson at the start of the 2016 regular season and he was later signed off of their practice squad by the Jets before eventually being added to their active roster.
New York declined to tender Tomlinson a restricted offer this offseason, making him an unrestricted free agent.
In 2018, Tomlinson appeared in 15 games for the Jets and caught eight passes for 72 yards receiving and no touchdowns.
