The Jacksonville Jaguars officially claimed LB James Onwualu off of waivers from the 49ers on Tuesday.
Onwualu, 24, signed on with the Chargers as an undrafted free agent out of Notre Dame back in 2017. He was waived in the final weeks of the 2017 season and signed to the team’s practice squad.
Los Angeles re-signed Onwualu to a one-year futures deal last year but was waived with an injury designation in November and he later reverted to injured reserve. After being cut loose, he signed on with the 49ers’ practice squad.
San Francisco waived Onwualu on Monday.
In 2018, Onwualu appeared in five games for the 49ers and recorded two tackles and a forced fumble.
