Jaguars CB Jalen Ramsey Says He’s Not Getting A Contract Extension This Year

According to Daniel Popper, Jaguars CB Jalen Ramsey says he’s been told he’s not getting a contract extension this year. 

Ramsey has two years under contract with Jacksonville. The Jaguars exercised Ramsey’s fifth-year option earlier this offseason, which allows them to keep him through the 2020 season. 

Ramsey’ option should cost the Jaguars around $13 million for the 2020 season and will become fully guaranteed on the first day of 2020 league year.

Ramsey has been a cornerstone of the Jaguars defense since they drafted him in 2016, but there were reports last year the Jaguars were considering trading him. 

Ramsey previously said if the team didn’t open extension talks after the 2018 season, it would be an indication that the reports could be true.

“Like I said, I’m going to let my agent and the front office handle that, but after what came out here, what was it five weeks ago or however many weeks ago it was, yeah I’m feeling like yeah, if y’all serious about that [a potential trade] not being real, then y’all need to make it happen,” Ramsey said, via ESPN.com. “If not, then maybe what came out five weeks ago will happen. We’ll see.”

Ramsey, 24, is a former first-round pick of the Jaguars back in 2016. He signed a four-year, $23.35 million contract and is set to make a base salary of $3.63 million in 2019.

In 2018, Ramsey appeared in all 16 games for the Jaguars and recorded 65 tackles, three interceptions and 13 pass defenses.
