According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Jaguars are so entrenched in their non-trade stance with CB Jalen Ramsey that one source told him they wouldn’t trade Ramsey at this time “for five first-round picks.”
Schefter reports that the Jaguars have, in fact, received offers of two first-round picks for Ramsey, but the teams making those offers also wanted a second-round pick back in return.
As of now, the Jaguars haven’t budged and continue to insist that they won’t do so. Owner Shad Khan doesn’t want a player dictating to him how to operate a franchise, which is why the standoff is ongoing.
Schefter says that money would not be an issue if the Jaguars were willing to trade Ramsey and he’s willing to play for other teams without an extension in place.
Sources have told Schefter that the Jaguars have questions about whether Ramsey could pass a physical because of a back injury that will keep him out of his second straight game on Sunday.
Ramsey is visiting with a back specialist and has said that he’s dealt with back issues throughout his career.
Chris Mortensen said in a recent ESPN Radio interview that there are four teams still “highly highly interested” in pursuing a trade for Ramsey including the Eagles, Chiefs, Ravens and Chargers.
Mortensen added it’s easy to call the Eagles the frontrunners for Ramsey given their injuries in the secondary, while the Ravens and Chiefs are two other “obvious” candidates.
Mortensen says Khan is willing to pay Ramsey when his contract is up in two years and doesn’t want to set a precedent of players being able to force their way out.
Ramsey, 24, is a former first-round pick of the Jaguars back in 2016. He signed a four-year, $23.35 million contract and is set to make a base salary of $3.63 million in 2019.
The Jaguars picked up Ramsey’ fifth-year option that will cost them around $13 million for the 2020 season and will become fully guaranteed on the first day of 2020 league year.
In 2019, Ramsey has appeared in three games for the Jaguars and recorded 18 tackles, a forced fumble and one pass defense.
We’ll have more regarding Ramsey as the news is available.
