Jaguars Release Veteran DE Jason Babin

The Jaguars announced the release of veteran DE Jason Babin Thursday morning.

  • According to Mike Garafolo, this move is “a bit of a head scratcher” given that Babin looked to be fitting in very well this offseason.
  • Garafolo adds that Babin basically made $500,000 for the offseason.

Babin, 34, actually voided his contract in the days leading up to free agency, but he would re-sign with the team just as free agency got under way.

There has been some talk that former second-round pick Andre Branch could be the odd man out. However, he has put together an impressive offseason, according to HC Gus Bradly, so this could explain why they chose to part ways with Babin.

Last year, Babin recorded 40 tackles, 7.5 sacks and three forced fumbles for the Jaguars defense.
