Jaguars Trade K Josh Scobee To Steelers For 2016 6th Rd Pick

Update:

The Pittsburgh Steelers announced Monday that they’ve traded a 2016 sixth-round pick to the Jaguars in return for K Josh Scobee, per Adam Caplan.

Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reports that the Josh Scobee will receive his full $3.45 million salary for the 2015 season as part of the trade between the Steelers and Jaguars. However, the Jaguars will pay a portion of this salary.

The Steelers and Scobee were reportedly discussing the possibility of adding another year to his contract, according to La Canfora, but it sounds like he’ll enter the final year of his contract.

Pittsburgh is already paying two other kickers, so this is serious investment by them in a kicker.

For what it’s worth, La Canfora doesn’t rule out the possibility of the Steelers franchising Scobee next year.

Ray Fittipaldo reports that K Josh Scobee is restructuring his contract to facilitate a trade to Pittsburgh.

  • Fittipaldo adds that the Steelers wouldn’t be willing to take on his $3.425 million salary as part of this deal.
  • Scobee has yet to sign a restructured contract, but it’s possibly that a deal could be done later in the day.

The Jacksonville Jaguars have reportedly traded K Josh Scobee to the Pittsburgh Steelers, according to Ryan O’Halloran of the Florida Times-Union.

Pittsburgh lost Garrett Hartley to a recent hamstring injury, so it’s not surprising to hear that they’re adding a new kicker. However, this seems like a costly move for the Steelers, given that you can normally find some options at low salaries on the open market.

The Jaguars will move forward with Jason Meyers as their place kicker for the 2015 season.

Scobee, 33, is entering the final year of his  four-year, $13.8 million contract that included $4.75 million guaranteed. He’ll make a base salary of $3.425 million for the 2015 season.

Jason Fitzgerald points out that the Steelers will take on $3.45 million in salary following this trade.

In 2014, Scobee converted 20 of 26 field goal attempts including three of six from 50 yards or more. He was also 23-23 in extra point attempts and had 37 touchbacks.
