Jets & DE Kony Ealy Have Discussed Extension

Jets DE Kony Ealy said on Wednesday that his reps and the team have discussed a potential contract extension.

Our people have had conversations, potential whatever,” Ealy said, via Darryl Slater of NJ.com. “But at the end of the day, everything will settle itself. It’s not a really a top worry of mine.”

Ealy did say that he would like to be back with the Jets next year.

“Definitely,” Ealy said. “Just got to wait and see. You never know what happens. It’s a long way from that now. Just got to worry about finishing out the year.”

Ealy, 26, is a former second-round pick of the Panthers back in 2014. He’s currently in the third year of his four-year, $3.546 million contract that included $1.249 million guaranteed and stands to make a base salary of $803,660 for the 2017 season.

The Panthers traded Ealy and a 2017 third-round pick to the Patriots in exchange for a second-round pick back in March. However, it didn’t work out for Ealy in New England and he was waived coming out of the preseason.

The Jets later claimed him off of waivers.

In 2017, Ealy has appeared in 13 games for the Jets and recorded 14 tackles, one sack, an interception and nine pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 50 edge rusher out of 115 qualifying players.
