Report: Jets Will Start Greg McElroy

Manish Mehta reports that he’s been informed that the Jets will in fact start Greg McElroy against the Chargers in Week 16.

Rich Cimini of ESPN reports that the Jets are currently “leaning toward” starting Greg McElroy against the Chargers in Week 16.

The Jets have shown almost no interest in starting Tim Tebow and McElroy was able to help them pull out a win a few weeks, so it does make sense that he would be the favorite at this point in time.

Manish Mehta of the Daily News reports that the Jets are expected to bench Mark Sanchez for Week 16’s matchup against the San Diego Chargers.

While the news probably isn’t all that shocking, the Jets coaching staff has stood behind Sanchez through another terrible season, but his performance in Monday’s loss to the Titans was definitely deserving of such a move. The only question will be whether or not they start Tim Tebow or Greg McElroy, but at this point it really doesn’t matter anymore.

There has been a lot of speculation that the Jets will consider parting Sanchez during the offseason, despite his ridiculous salary that would translate into a $17 million cap hit next season.
